Kazuhiko Nakagawa, MD, PhD

Professor Nakagawa graduated from the Kumamoto University School of Medicine in Japan in 1983, and got training for Medical Oncology at National Cancer Center Research Institute in Tokyo. In 1994, he went abroad to NCI in the United States to do basic research for the development of investigational new drugs, especially for molecular targeted drugs. In 1997, Prof. Nakagawa moved back to Osaka as an Instructor and later became full Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology at the Kinki University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. His research interests include novel therapies for lung cancer.

Since 2011, Prof. Nakagawa has been playing the role as a director of IASLC and actively contributing to the development of cancer treatment not only in Japan but internationally. He is also the board liaison of Career Development Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee of IASLC. In addition, he is a director of JLCS (Japan Lung Cancer Society) and JSMO (Japanese Society of Medical Oncology), the Vice President of WJOG (West Japan Oncology Group) and the chair of its Thoracic Oncology Committee. He has been involved in a number of WJOG clinical trials and playing the role as Principal Investigator. In 2012, he has organized 10th Annual Meeting of JSMO as the Congress President, which has been successfully held in Osaka and gathered 4,821 people from 13 different countries. He also plays the role of Principle Investigator in a number of clinical trials in Japan, which are federally-supported, and has published the clinical and translational research works extensively on the various scientific international journals.
