Dr. Wood was Chief of Surgical Oncology and Clinical Director of the MGH Cancer Center at Harvard before becoming Chair of the Department of Surgery at Emory University. His research efforts have been in oncology, first in the immunology of autoantibodies to tumor associated antigens, then in clinical trials in the multimodality treatment of breast cancer. He has chaired the Breast Cancer Committees of Cancer and Leukemia Group B, then the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, as well as the NCI (USA) Breast Intergroup. He co-chaired the Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group (Oxford) and the NCI Breast Cancer Steering Committee. He has authored over 285 publications and his books include the three-volume Oxford Textbook of Surgery, 2nd Ed. He currently serves as Academic Dean of the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons’ ten surgical residency programs in sub-Saharan Africa.
